More from Former Cats in the NBA

We all know that deep down former Wildcat Karl-Anthony Towns was hoping to play for the New York Knicks. However, that’s just not how the lottery played out. Towns is likely the number one or number two pick in this upcoming draft, so he’ll wind up in Minnesota or Los Angeles.

It was a blow for both Towns and the Knicks, who need all the help they can get. However, they have yet to wash their hands from the Kentucky kids. the New Yorks Daily News had some positive things to say about former Wildcat Trey Lyles and the possibility that he may get picked up by the Knicks himself. While we know he isn’t a projected top 5 or even top 10 pick, this may be a long shot, but here’s what they had to say,

"Even with Karl Anthony-Towns expected to be the first overall pick in next month’s NBA Draft, the Knicks may stick with the philosophy of taking the best Kentucky big man available. While Towns and Willie Cauley-Stein have garnered the most attention, the Knicks for months have been enamored with Trey Lyles, according to a team source. Lyles is a 6-foot-10 forward out of Indianapolis who Phil Jackson sees as a good fit for the triangle offense.Would the Knicks select Lyles with the fourth overall pick? Crazier things have happened and if Jackson truly believes Lyles, the 2014 Indiana Mr. Basketball who was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and has played internationally for the U.S. and Canada, is worth it, perhaps he’ll make the move. A more plausible scenario would be for the Knicks to trade down, since most draft experts don’t see him as a top 10 pick. The Knicks scouted Kentucky extensively during the season. Jackson even made a trip to Lexington to see John Calipari’s team practice, and the word from people associated with the Wildcats is that the Knicks were impressed with Lyles."

Nov 29, 2014; Louisville, KY, USA; Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Stoops reacts during the second half against the Louisville Cardinals at Papa John

Mark Stoops is changing the face of Kentucky football, there is absolutely no denying that. This upcoming season could be something Kentucky fans haven’t seen in quite a long time..a winning season. Stoops and Co. are some of the best recruiters to step foot in Lexington and are only getting better each year. They’re going after the same guys as some of the best teams in not only the SEC, but the country.

OT Landon Young from Lafayette High School in Lexington is committed to stay home and play for the Wildcats in 2016, but Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide are on his tail trying to pull him away from home like they did Damien Harris. It’s hard to turn down the consistent number one team in the country for a team like Kentucky, but Young insists that he’s staying committed to Mark Stoops and Co.

Even if the Wildcats do lose out on Young, fans can be appreciative that they’re team is finally competing and being considered by the top players in the country. It may sting if Stoops and Co. lose another potential Wildcat to Alabama, but the program is on the uprise.
