Best Fit for Karl Towns

Karl Towns was the bread and butter for the Kentucky Wildcats this season. Whenever the Wildcats needed a clutch basket, you could almost guarantee that they were going to feed the big man down low for a right handed hook. Unfortunately, after just one season, Towns is following the trend and heading to the NBA.

There are three teams that have the highest possibility of landing the number one pick. Although Karl Towns is not guaranteed to be the first overall pick, it is highly likely that either the 76ers, Knicks, or Timberwolves will receive his services. Which team would be the best fit for number 12?

Philadelphia 76ers

With a record of 18-64 this season, the 76ers are very much in the running to land the number one pick. If they were to land the top spot, who would they go with?

In the front court for the young Sixers are more than likely the only two bright spots in Nerlens Noel and a returning Joel Embid. Even though seeing two former Kentucky Wildcats teaming up would be fun to watch, Philadelphia drafting Karl Towns would not make sense.

The places the Sixers struggle the most (besides everywhere) are the point guard through the small forward spots. After trading away Michael Carter-Williams to the Milwaukee Bucks, the spot of most need is a floor general at point guard. The 76ers will look to draft either Emmanuel Mudiay or D’Angelo Russell with their first pick working out best for them and Karl Towns as well.

There are many signs that would point to the Knicks being the best place for Karl Towns to land. The chance to learn from Phil Jackson and Carmelo Anthony, close to home, and Towns himself grew up a New York Knicks fan. His father even went far enough to say that he wants his son to play for the Knicks to make them good again.

As all the stars line up… the New York Knicks is still not the best situation for Karl Towns. With no help down low, any form of success the Karl Towns has, will be soon followed by a double team. Going home to play for his favorite childhood team would be a dream, but there is still a better fit for Towns out there.

Andrew Wiggins and the Minnesota Timberwolves are the best fit for Karl Towns. In Minnesota, every spot is filled by a young promising player except for one… power forward. Adding Karl Towns to their formula of Ricky Rubio, Kevin Martin, Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins, and Nikola Pekovic could be a team to stick together and grow into something special.

Currently starting at power forward for the Timberwolves in an excellent learning opportunity for Towns. Kevin Garnett, one of the best to ever play the position could teach Karl everything he needs to know. Imagine Karl Towns knocking down the elbow jumper as consistent as KG use to do. This type of teaching could not be found in Philadelphia or New York, the Timberwolves are the best fit for Mr. Towns.
