Kentucky Getting Close to Landing Jaylen Brown?

More from Kentucky basketball recruiting

It has been widely thought for a while now that Marietta Georgia’s own Jaylen Brown was a long shot of sorts when it came to Kentucky being able to land the 6 foot 7 small forward. Jaylen Brown never took Kentucky off his list of school he was considering,  thus giving the slightest of hope to John Calipari and Kentucky fans. It had been rumored that Jaylen Brown was a UCLA lean, that was shot down when Brown cut UCLA off his list 2 days ago.

Jaylen in the process of taking UCLA off his list, trimmed some other schools off list leaving only 5 schools left, Kansas, Michigan, Cal, UNC and Kentucky. Kentucky continued to stick around. However, the news yesterday that Michigan’s Austin Hatch had been moved to a coaching position and would free up a scholarship and if you think about it, it makes sense to think that Michigan was making room for Jaylen Brown.

Then things started looking good for Kentucky and John Calipari. On Monday, a 3 star recruit, Shaun Kirk, committed to NC State. Later that night in came John Calipari and a scholarship offer. Kirk wisely decided to think about it. He was setup to have a visit to Kentucky’s campus this weekend. Well, earlier today Kirk announced that he wouldn’t be taking a visit to Kentucky, and he signed his Letter Of Intent today with NC State.

People said that Kirk was a power forward and had no effect on Jaylen Brown. I find that hard to believe and I won’t believe it. He is 6 foot 6 and 185 pounds, there is no way in the world that he is a power forward. Who ever would play him there would be doing him a disfavor. So, that leads to the question, did Calipari say never mind to him and stick with NC State? Or did he just decide he needs to stick to his word? In my opinion I believe Calipari told him that he should just go ahead and stay with NC State because he had someone else coming in. Who was that someone else? I believe Jaylen Brown. Especially since Shaun Kirk went ahead and signed his LOI to the Wolfpack without even seeing what Kentucky had to offer and canceling his visit.

That wasn’t the only positive news in Kentucky’s favor today. Scout’s recruiting analyst Brian Snow had this to say to The Detroit News:

"“I’m officially more confident than ever that the two teams at the top right now are Michigan and Kentucky,”"

Though Michigan still seems slightly like the team to beat, Kentucky looks as if they have closed a big gap and are still gaining speed.

I don’t know whether you look at 247 sports crystal ball but this is what it looked like at 9pm tonight.

Michigan still has the edge, but Kentucky is still right there.

For what it’s worth the sporting blog StraightHoops.com tweeted out that Jaylen Brown will commit to Kentucky. They did call the Brandon Ingram to Duke and Cheick Diallo to Kansas.

So who knows. Starting to feel good about Jaylen Brown committing to Kentucky. Though, the only person that truly knows is Jaylen Brown. Until then, we can all hope. Stay tuned.
