Thon Maker Down to Four Schools
It is no secret that the Kentucky Wildcats need more depth for the 2015-2016 roster. Will John Calipari sign that last marquee recruit, and if he does… when will he?

Thon Maker, a 7 foot power forward who can shoot and dribble like a guard has trimmed his list to four. Arizona State is new to the party joining Indiana, Kansas and Kentucky for his services. The only stipulation to his services is, they might have to wait until conference play to be seen.
"“It’s shaping up like it’s going to be mid-year,” Maker’s mentor Ed Smith told Scout. “It’s looking more and more like it’ll be that. He has his core done. That’ll be done on June 23. He’s fine in his core. It’s just getting the work done.”“For our sake we are going step by step to see what makes sense for him,” he added. “If we can get a mid-year situation that’s good for him and he can walk in then we’ll go with a mid-year situation.”“Just to clarify, the Europe and pro route is not something we are considering,” Smith told Scout."
With the Pro and Europe route out of the equation, what makes the most sense for Thon Maker? Thon is a pro prospect regardless of which school he attends, so that should not play a huge role in his decision. The Biggest factor will probably be who can offer the most minutes where he can come in and still play right away at the start of the second semester. Cheick Diallo, who is deciding relativiely soon, also has Kansas and Kentucky on his list. If he chooses either school, Maker will almost certainly chose elsewhere.
Speaking of Kansas, their front court is already pretty crowded. Perry Ellis is still somehow enrolled, and with the commitment of Carlton Bragg, the Jayhawks are already power forward loaded.
Indiana has signed Thomas Bryant, but there is still room for Maker. If Thon wants to be the main star, then the Hoosiers are his choice.
Kentucky has been a player for Thon for a while now. It also helps Kentucky’s chances with their recruitment of Thon’s teammate Jamal Murray. The four spot is open minutes wise, where he would be a nice compliment and offensive teacher to Marcus Lee.
Arizona State has the connection close to Smith, Maker’s guardian. Other than that, the Sun Devils do not make much sense.
It looks as if mid season is the goal, but anything sooner would be ideal for the schools chasing him. Do not make a mistake though, Thon Maker is worth waiting for.
