Kentucky Baseball got another big win Friday night, as they clinched the home series against Tennessee with a 3-1 victory. The Cats used eight hits and 3 Tennessee errors to help push them closer to the top of the SEC. The win now makes Kentucky 21-16 and 7-9 in SEC play.

Dustin Beggs was the Kentucky starter tonight, looking for his fifth win of the season. Beggs was dealing all night, throwing seven strikeouts through six innings. Beggs has looked strong in all of his appearances for the Cats this season.

Beggs would carry a shutout into the eighth inning where retired three batters and handed the ball over to Zach Logue to finish of the Volunteers. Logue would allow just one run to cross the plate in the ninth, but would get his first save of the year as well.

Tennessee has had some struggling offense in Lexington. The Vols have only scored one run in two contest against the Bat Cats. If the Vols want to avoid the sweep the need to put up better offensive numbers.

Now the complete opposite could be said about Kentucky. The Cats have put their bats to good use during this series, scoring eight runs in two games.  Kyle Barrett’s 149th career hit lead to the Cats first run. Evan White has continued his hot streak with an RBI double that scored Barrett. White would later score on a Ka’ai Tom sacrifice fly.

Kentucky has also played solid defense behind the high powered offense. The Cats have not had an error in both games of the series. If the Cats keep up the good defense, they could seriously make a run for the SEC East.

Ka’ai Tom added the final run for the Cats tonight. Tom beat out an infield single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh. Another interesting fact on Ka’ai Tom, Tom is a perfect 13-13 on stolen bases.

Kentucky looks to sweep Tennessee tomorrow at high noon. The Cats need this series to continue to improve in the SEC standings. The Bat Cats are looking to try and catch Vandy for the top spot. Come bring the brooms and support the Bat Cats at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
