Potential Kentucky Wildcats

It is no secret that what separates John Calipari from all of the other great coaches is his ability to recruit the best of the best talent. Currently the Kentucky Wildcats have nine McDonald’s All Americans on their roster, but that number is likely to be cut in half after the season. Who are the next Cats?

More from Kentucky basketball recruiting

The Kentucky Wildcats are atop the recruit rankings at the moment but will need more players for next season. Center Skal Labissiere and shooting guard Charles Matthews did not participate in last nights even but your next duel point guard was present and looked impressive.

Isaiah Briscoe is an interesting point guard unlike one that we have seen during the Calipari Era. He has the demeanor of a John Wall, the shot making of a Brandon Knight, and the drive and dish of attacking Andrew Harrison. The 6 foot 3 guard ended up with 11 points 5 rebounds and 3 assists on the evening. Briscoe hopes that this weekend was enough to sway some of the other top recruits.

"While resting on the bench, Briscoe said, “I’d like to play with Jaylen Brown and Malik Newman. I’m going to need someone on the wing to catch and shoot.”"

Speaking of the two coveted recruits, what are the chances that Kentucky can land 1 if not both of them?

Malik Newman is a combo guard but really wants to lead the team at point. This would come as an error for the Kentucky Wildcats as they are already crowded at point guard with a likely Tyler Ulis return and the addition of Briscoe. However he does like the notion of other teams having to guard him and Isaiah, and Briscoe is confident it will work. In the end, I see Newman heading to LSU to run point guard for a much improved Tigers team.

Jaylen Brown is the scoring wing that Kentucky will NEED next season to make them virtually unguardable once more. Although he had a rough outing last night, his talent is undeniable. Brown is the attack the rim wing that Kentucky has not seen since the lights of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Jaylen thoroughly enjoyed his visit at Kentucky and recently called them the “best basketball program in the country”. High Praise from who I predict to be your next starting small forward.

Other recruits Kentucky has on its radar are Diallo, Zimmerman, and Ingram. While I believe that these three are all gone to other schools, the Wildcats could use some more help down low after the current team declares for the NBA Draft. However, after an excellent performance last night, do not be surprise to hear a little more about Chieck Diallo.

Then finally say a prayer that if Thon Maker plays basketball in the United States next season that it is at the University of Kentucky. Maker is a revolutionary player that has the potential to be a Kevin Durant type of player.
