Georgia Bulldogs Send South Carolina Packing
By Ethan Conger
This year’s SEC tournament has been unkind to the teams wishing to enter the tournament this Sunday with an at large bid. Upsets have been the name of the game throughout the week with the highest seeded team in the tournament, Auburn, reaching a 3-game win streak today, taking down Texas A&M and LSU along the way (both teams were expected to receive at large bid, but now who knows?). Also, South Carolina, a team who virtually had no chance of competing in the dance, shook Ole Miss’s chances of getting their name called on Sunday with a nail-biting upset on Thursday night. The crazy week had many fans wondering if another upset could be on the horizon.

South Bound & Down
In tonight’s matchup of the Georgia Bulldogs and the South Carolina Gamecocks, that question was answered.
Georgia, after giving up a comfortable lead in the second half, closed out the game playing spectacular, finally beating the Gamecocks 74-62.
The Georgia Bulldogs played up on the Gamecocks, sustaining a comfortable lead for the later majority of the first half. Georgia seemed to grab offensive rebounds like their lives depended on it (and in a sense, it did) and second chance points seemed to come naturally, also. Georgia went into the tunnel at half with a 7-point lead.
But with all the nail-biters in this tournament from the last few days, this can’t be it can it?
Of course not. When the second half started, Georgia’s lead began to shrink and it was only a matter of time before South Carolina fought their way back into the ball game. Both teams scores remained balanced throughout the better half of the second half, and for a while there, you would’ve thought that the Gamecocks would’ve pulled another upset off. But after a phenomenal last 3 minutes of play by the Bulldogs, Georgia lives to see another day.
Georgia’s cream of the crop, Marcus Thornton, showed people just why they call him that tonight. Marcus had 15 points along with 8 rebounds in tonight’s matchup. He sat the last few minutes of play after fouling out.
Kenny Gaines, who was originally a game-time decision suffering a foot injury, ended up suiting up to play and didn’t seem to miss a beat. Kenny was 3-5 from behind the line and many times throughout the game, he provided the ‘spark’ to get the Bulldogs’ energy back.
After tonight’s win over the Gamecocks, the Bulldogs have all of their attention set towards the Razorbacks in tomorrow’s semifinals meeting.
