National media still trying to steal Kentucky Wildcats joy
By Paul Jordan
Over the weekend, Spring football practice started for the Kentucky Wildcats football team. After two seasons, there is pressure on Mark Stoops to make a bowl game. The folks at ESPN are picking UK to do just that in their list of bold predictions for next year.
"Kentucky will go bowling: The Wildcats looked like they were on their way last season after starting out 5-1, but they lost their last six games and stayed home for the postseason. In Year No. 3 under Mark Stoops, Kentucky will get back to a bowl after a four-year hiatus. Even then, the Wildcats will lose more games in September than their basketball team does this entire season. That’s good news for Cal’s boys, right?"

With the injury to Reese Phillips, there was concern about the Kentucky Wildcats going into Spring practice with just two quarterbacks. Mark Stoops addrfessed the injury situation and Phillips over the weekend.
"On the total number of guys out with injuries this spring: “I didn’t tally it up. I’ll go through it here with you, the guys that I got on — I grabbed (team doctor) Jim’s list on the way out: Dorian Baker, Jabari (Johnson), Greg Hart, Reese (Phillips), Rashad Cunningham, Ryan Timmons, Cameron Fogle — he’ll be back; he’s got a hammy, so he’s not out for the whole spring but he’s out right now, should be back after spring break — Charles Walker, Fred Tiller and Regie Meant. A few of those guys — Regie, Fred and Charles — can do some things. They just won’t do live, team situations. I believe that’s it. Hopefully.” On expecting Phillips (Achilles’ surgery this week) to be back for fall: “Oh, yeah. He’ll be fine, barring anything setting him back. It is a pretty significant injury. I feel for him, because he’s a real competitor and he was really looking forward to the opportunity to get out here this spring and once again compete for that job, and he worked extremely hard. So I feel for him, and that’s – as we all know – all positions are tough to miss 15 practices, but certainly at quarterback is tough.”"
