Busy Recruiting Week for the Kentucky Wildcats
By Ethan Conger
While most of the Big Blue Nation had their eyes set on the 2 basketball matchups from the past week, quite a few things went down in the Kentucky football recruiting universe.
3-star cornerback Chris Westry, former Auburn commit flipped his commitment from the Tigers to the Kentucky Wildcats last Tuesday. Westry is the 88th overall cornerback according to 247 composite ratings and has offers from other big time schools such as Arkansas, Florida, and USF. Westry decided to flip schools (supposedly) due to the defensive coaching change down at Auburn. Westry brings versatility and size to the Wildcats’ secondary, a corps that gave up 215 yards/game last season ranking 48th among FBS schools.
"Three-star cornerback Chris Westry flipped his commitment from Auburn to UK after meeting with Wildcats assistants Jimmy Brumbaugh and Derrick Ansley on Tuesday, just a couple of days after wrapping up his official visit to Lexington.Oakleaf (Fla.) Coach Derek Chipoletti told the Herald-Leader that Westry and his mother had a “great time” on the trip to Kentucky over the weekend.“It boiled down to feeling very comfortable with the players he visited with, and obviously the coaches,” Chipoletti said. “He saw what he needed on his end, and his mom made the trip with him and she got all of the answers she was looking for.“Just feeling comfortable with an established defensive staff was big for him.”Westry had been committed to Auburn since July, but that program has gone through a defensive coaching change since the end of the season that included former Florida coach Will Muschamp coming in as the Tigers’ new defensive coordinator."

Jeremiah Dinson, another 3-star cornerback out of Florida decommitted from the Kentucky Wildcats sunday afternoon via twitter:
Gus Malzahn is expectedly going to visit Dinson down in Miami on monday. Most are expecting him to commit to Auburn in the next week or so.
Back to some good news, JUCO wide receiver Kayaune Ross out of Phoenix College in Arizona sorta kinda committed to the Wildcats. Ross tweet announced his ‘commitment’ last week although nothing will be official until his campus visit this weekend.
Ross is a pretty big wide receiver at 6’5 and has interest in other big name schools such as Oklahoma, Cincinnati, Arizona State, and Texas Tech. You can check out some of his surprisingly impressive highlights over at Hudl.
Like I said, it isn’t 100% official right now. But If everything goes as planned, welcome to the BBN, big guy.
Vince Marrow is continuing to work his magic up in the state of Ohio. Kentucky is getting their foot in the door with a couple of kids out of the class of 2017. Todd Sibley, a sophomore running back up in Akron received his second offer from the Cats on saturday (the first coming in from Urban Meyer the day before). Sibley is a big name recruit gaining interest from schools among the likes of Alabama, Oregon, and Michigan State (just to name a few). You can check him out in action for yourself on his Hudl page.

Another 2017 recruit, Marcus Williamson, is reportedly going to be in Lexington visiting Kentucky next weekend. Williamson is the 6th overall cornerback in his class and like Todd Sibley, has a long list of big time schools to choose from. So let’s all hope he has a good visit next weekend. 247Sports wrote an article on Williamson’s planned visit to Lexington:
"The 5-foot-10, 178-pound cornerback currently has six offers, from Ohio State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Tennessee, Indiana, and Toledo thus far, but is sure to add more this off-season.Williamson was recently in Columbus this weekend for Ohio State’s national title celebration this weekend, and informed 247Sports he will make his first trip to Kentucky next weekend, saying “I’m hoping it’s a good one.”The Ohio-native is ranked as a 4-star prospect, No. 67 overall, the No. 6 cornerback, and No. 3 in the state of Ohio per 247Sports. Vince Marrow is recruiting him for the Wildcats."
Aren’t you glad Vince decided to stay? I sure am.
With national signing day coming up in about a week and a half, expect the football recruiting world to get a lot crazier.
