Vince Marrow is a vital and popular member of Mark Stoops’ coaching staff. He coaches hard, he recruits hard. He is wearing out his home state of Ohio and bringing recruits down to Lexington at a never before seen clip. One thing Coach Marrow doesn’t do a lot of is tweeting.

Having said that, one of his last tweets was kind of telling especially when it’s looked at in hindsight.

More from Kentucky football

He tweeted this right after Kentucky’s season finale, a 44-40 loss at Louisville. The “we will get there next year” line no doubt echoed the sentiments of every coach, player and staff member. However, it is the “it will get done here” that was tested. The test came from Michigan and newly hired coach Jim Harbaugh.

There’s the opportunity to go to Ann Arbor and team up with Harbaugh who has had success most recently at Stanford in college and the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL. No doubt it was tempting to entertain the idea of helping the Wolverines get back to their lofty place as one of the nation’s elite teams. On the other hand, he could stay at UK and continue to build and shape the program from the ground floor along with Mark Stoops.

Meanwhile, Kentucky held its breath, awaiting the decision that Marrow would ultimately make.

When it was all said and done, word got around that he was going to remain at Kentucky.

A new deal was reached with Marrow as well.

Mark Stoops confirmed the news of his right hand man’s deal as well.

This is definitely good news for UK. Things are going in the right direction and Vince Marrow is a big reason for that. If things continue down this path this won’t be the last time other schools come calling and attempt to pluck members of UK’s football staff away. We’ve already seen former offensive coordinator Neal Brown accept the head coaching job at Troy. Other coaches may depart if the right opportunities present themselves.

It’s always tough seeing coaches that you’re fond of move on, but if other schools want them that means good things are taking place at Kentucky.
