The Charlotte Hornets announced Tuesday morning that Malik Monk is dealing with an Ankle Injury. The ex-Kentucky Basketball will not participate in the NBA Summer League.

Ex-Kentucky Basketball guard Malik Monk may not be participating in the NBA Summer League. This comes as a bit of a surprise considering the fact that nothing was noted previously about an injury. Apparently, Monk suffered a sprained ankle during his workouts leading up to the draft.

The Hornets made the announcement Tuesday morning. It doesn’t seem like a bit of a concern for the organization. The timetable that was given for rehabilitation was just 2-4 weeks.

This may come as a blow to some. But, it comes as a bigger blow to Kentucky Basketball fans. The Big Blue Nation really wanted to see all of their beloved Cats show what they’ve got at the professional level.

The Charlotte Hornets

The Hornets will still be in good shape in the grand scheme of things. The NBA Summer League is basically a chance for lower tier players and incoming college players to showcase their abilities. NBA franchises tend to take notice of these players at times. Generally former G-League players as well as newcomers are the ones that make up all NBA Summer League rosters.

The Charlotte Hornets may not have Malik Monk playing with their summer league team but they do have a great deal of hype surrounding them. Monk joins a young core of guards in Charlotte. Kemba Walker is coming off of an incredible season.

Kentucky fans know Kemba Walker very well. The former UConn sharpshooter reminds me of Malik Monk at many levels. They both have unlimited range. Both players can be combined with Jeremy Lamb to become one of the top three-point shooting teams in the NBA.

That’s all fine and good, but with the Inclusion of Dwight Howard to the organization, the Hornets may have a playoff roster. Frank Kaminsky, Ramon Sessions, Cody Zeller and Nicolas Batum highlight this roster.
