Kentucky Basketball star, Malik Monk fell to the Charlotte Hornets with the 11th pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

Malik Monk becomes the second player drafted from the Kentucky Basketball program already in the 2017 NBA Draft. Monk joins Kentucky’s De’Aaron Fox as a lottery pick. John Calipari is an excellent distributor of talent to the NBA. The Kentucky Basketball pipeline continues to be a one-way ticket to the NBA Draft Lottery.

Malik Monk makes the 15th lottery pick for Kentucky since John Calipari stepped foot on campus. Kentucky has been a mainstay in every NBA Draft since 2010 when John Wall and Demarcus Cousins headlined the draft.

Malik Monk impressed many in his pre-draft workouts. His ability to shoot the basketball is what got him to the league. Monk can score in droves and score quickly. Once he heats up from the outside, not many people in the league can keep up with him. He will fit in nicely with Kemba Walker and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in Charlotte.

The Charlotte Hornets

The Hornets are very young. Led by Kemba Walker, the Charlotte Hornets may be one of the top three point shooting teams in the league. With them adding Dwight Howard through offseason trades, the Hornets look to be a very improved team.

Monk fell in this draft based on his defensive abilities. That could’ve been the straw that broke the camel’s back in his draft stock. Although he is a liability on defense, he is a scorer who can light up the scoreboard. Kentucky Basketball fans will be pleased to know that Michael Jordan will now have two Kentucky Wildcats on his team.

Monk will hopefully become a prolific scorer in the NBA for a long time. As a competitor who has unlimited range, he has the potential to be a star in Charlotte.
