Kentucky Football: Boom Williams signs with Cincinnati Bengals

After going undrafted, Kentucky Football running back, Stanley “Boom” Williams has signed with the Cincinnati Bengals.

It was announced Saturday night that Boom Williams has signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals. The Kentucky Football star running back declared for the NFL Draft directly after the Wildcats’ loss to Georgia Tech in the TaxSlayer Bowl.

Boom Williams scored 20 total touchdowns in his career at Kentucky. While in Lexington, Williams has been a key piece in the Kentucky Football offense under different offensive coordinators and schemes. The 2016 campaign under Eddie Gran showed Boom’s true abilities. Also, the Georgia native rushed for 1,170 yards as a junior last season.

NFL Draft, most analyst rated Williams in the middle of the pack of running backs. Most mock Drafts had him rated to go undrafted.

The Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals made waves in the second round after they picked the controversial running back Joe Mixon. The Oklahoma star is the marquee name from Bengals draft picks. Jeremy Hill as well as Giovani Bernard are already on the roster as the workload holders. Adding Mixon and now Williams will crowd that backfield. It’s almost certain that Williams will see some time as a special teams player. A Kickoff returner, or punt returner is a possibility.

If Boom Williams can impress with his athleticism, which is likely, special teams is where he will make his money at first.

Additionally, the 5-foot-9 speedster could get his chance in an offense that uses a similar running back in Bernard. Giovani Bernard is a speedy back that catches a lot of passes out of the backfield. Williams is not a sort of back that should be able to bust it between the tackles a ton. But, at 200 pounds, he has the ability and strength to do so.
