Friday night, Kentucky basketball commit Jarred Vanderbilt injured his right foot in the closing minutes of the Jordan Brand Classic.

The five-star McDonald’s All-American has battled foot and leg injuries during his high school career, so this is something for Kentucky Basketball fans to keep an eye on.

The severity of the injury is unknown as of right now. He received an x-ray following the game, though the results won’t be available until Monday. Regardless, Vanderbilt seems to be in high spirits, posting on Instagram:

This is truly poor timing, as Vanderbilt has been climbing up draft boards. He has worked his way up to the top ten, projected 8th in the early 2018 mock draft.

Prior to his injury, Vanderbilt posted 17 points and seven rebounds in the Jordan Brand Classic. His performances in the months leading to his arrival at Kentucky have been remarkable. He’s established himself as one of the best recruits coming into college basketball next year.

While there’s currently no reason to worry about Vanderbilt’s availability for next season, it is something to keep an eye on. Losing Vanderbilt would be the loss of a potential great play-maker off of the wing, something Kentucky basketball needs.

We hope that this injury turns out to be a minor one, and we wish him nothing but the best.

John Calipari and the Big Blue Nation are holding their breath waiting on the results. If Vanderbilt’s injury is significant enough to hold him out for the summer, the talented young man would fall behind in terms of development. The college game is much more demanding than a prep career.

Kentucky Basketball fans will surely be keeping tabs on Vanderbilt.
