The popular Coca-Cola soft drink company dropped a great commercial featuring Kentucky Basketball fans.

Check out the commercial:

A Description

The commercial starts out in the comfy living room of Kentucky Basketball fans watching their Cats play in the NCAA Tournament. As the power goes out, the party moves outdoors in hopes to find another house to watch the game. They find a house, which happens to be occupied by a Kansas Jayhawks fan. The Kentucky party knocks on the door, the Jayhawk then proceeds to shut the door in their face. A generous gesture of a six-pack of Coca-Cola persuades the Kansas fan to re-open the door and allow the Wildcats’ fans to continue watching the game at his place.

A Critique

First things first. Let’s move back to the beginning of the commercial in order to set some things straight. Put yourself in the position of these exuberant Kentucky fans.

You’re watching the game on television and your power goes out. What do you do? I can almost guarantee that the first words that come out of your mouth are a stream of expletives. Nothing has the right to interfere with Kentucky fans’ ability to watch the game. Nothing. Not even mother nature herself. So that part, in itself, is not an accurate representation of what watching a game is like as a Kentucky fan. It’s even more intense during the NCAA Tournament.

Secondly, the Cats fans would not bother to walk outside in hopes to find another house to watch the game. This is simply because Kentucky weather is so unpredictable. It could be sunny and 75 degrees in March, or it can be snowing. There is no in-between.

Game day for a Kentucky fan would involve better preparation that this as well. We would have had a backup plan. A subscription to Watch ESPN and our mobile phones would be the next step.

A Kansas Fan…Really?

Just a couple of last remarks regarding this commercial. If everything else did happen, the power going out, the reunited Cats fans on the streets, and the knocking on the door of the Kansas fan. For one, any self-minded Kentucky Basketball fan, would not watch a game with a Kansas fan. It seems as though, in the commercial, Kentucky may even be playing Kansas in the NCAA Tournament.

If the latter is true, that place is too calm for that caliber of a game. Also, I don’t see anyone arguing or bragging about the 2012 NCAA Championship, which you know would happen.

Overall, all jokes aside, this is great work by the company. They know how to appeal to the best college fan base in the land.
