Zach Calzada made national headlines by responding to a fan's criticism by repeatedly telling him to "get money" as he showed off stacks of $100 bills. It went on for about 30 seconds, and it went over about as well as you'd expect.

Today, Zach Calzada issued a public apology on social media:
“to my teammates, coaches, and anyone who has ever believed in me: I take full responsibility for the video I sent to someone on social media. I let my emotions get the best of me. It does not reflect the gratitude I should share as a member of the Kentucky Football team. I sincerly apologize to my teams, coaches, and our fans. I'll learn from this, do better, and move forward with more respect for the opportunity I've been given.”
The Calzada apology misses the real point
Honestly, I know people got worked up online about it, and that's fine. These guys should be more resistant to responding to fan chatter. However, what did he do that was really that bad?
He was just flashing money that the coaching staff was dumb enough to pay him to come be a rental starter. It didn't work out, he hasn't played, some guy popped off at him and he popped back. No one got hurt, and I see people calling for him to be kicked off the team. That is way, way too far.
How about kicking the coaches who gave him a reported $1.25 million to come be the starter off the team? Because that money could have been spent on a struggling defense or struggling WR room. It could have got you a better offensive line who have struggled at points in the season.
Cutter Boley was always the answer; they just couldn't see it. And that says a lot more about 40 and 50-year-old coaches than it does a kid in his twenties bragging on social media.
This isn't just a "bad look" for a player. This is a massive, embarrassing, $1.25 million black eye on the coaching staff and their complete inability to evaluate and find talent in the portal.
Calzada will move on after this year, but it looks like Stoops will still be here. And that is a much bigger problem than flashing some "hunnits."
