Kentucky football’s exodus of wide receivers continues as sophomore Brandon White has entered the transfer portal. White joins Barion Brown, Dane Key, and Anthony Brown-Stephens, marking the fourth wideout to leave the program. While White’s on-field contributions were minimal—his only recorded stat being a 19-yard kickoff return in two seasons—the departure raises further questions about Kentucky’s ability to develop a consistent offensive passing game. White was a highly-regarded prospect coming out of Moeller High School in Cincinnati, ranked as the No. 26 player in Ohio and one of the nation’s top 150 wide receivers, per ESPN. Known for his blistering speed, White ran a personal best of 10.30 seconds in the 100-meter dash at the 2022 Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I Southwest District Outdoor Championships, where he finished second. He also earned All-America honors in the 60-meter dash at the Adidas Indoor Track and Field Nationals, breaking the Indoor State Meet record with a 6.73-second finish.

Despite his elite speed—clocked at 4.28 seconds in the 40-yard dash—Kentucky failed to develop White into a contributing receiver. His departure highlights a troubling trend for the Wildcats, who have now lost two high-profile targets in Brown and Key, along with the experienced Brown-Stephens.

Wide receiver depth has quickly become a glaring issue for Kentucky, with the program needing significant reinforcements from the transfer portal. Losing a player with White’s speed and potential underscores the Wildcats’ struggles to maximize the talents of their recruits.

As Kentucky seeks to remain competitive in the SEC, addressing wide receiver attrition must become a priority. The loss of four receivers, including a high-upside athlete like White, puts added pressure on head coach Mark Stoops and the staff to restock the position while ensuring better player development moving forward.

Oh yeah, and Kentucky needs a new WR coach. The good times keep on rolling for Stoops and company.
