Will Stein is a busy man; he has to get Oregon ready for a rematch with Indiana in the College Football Playoff semifinals, he has to navigate the Transfer Portal, and help secure Kentucky's recruiting future, all in the same week. That requires an elite work ethic; the results prove Stein has that in spades.
Kentucky football high school recruiting is coming in waves
When Will Stein was hired, he was asked how he wanted to build his team. His answer was high school recruiting, using the portal as a supplemental tool. That kind of talk is usually just that at a place like Kentucky. There have been some massive signings here, but they are spread out:
Antonio Hall- 2000
Micah Johnson- 2006
Kiyaunta Goodwin- 2022
Justin Rogers- 2020
Landon Young- 2016
That list shows Kentucky has picked up significantly, but still only two of those players really were able to overlap for more than 1 season. That means building the roster comes from the portal. Will Stein has taken that as a personal challenge.
Kentucky football offers since Will Stein has taken over
5-star CB John Meredith III
5-star LB Kaiden Buchanan
5-star DL Asher Ghioto
4-star OT Carter Jones
4-star OL Oluwasemilore Olubobola
4-star OL Jordan Agbanoma
4-star OL Kyler Kuhn
4-star S Jayden Aparicio-Bailey
4-star LB Noah Glover
3-star Jaiden Lindsay
WR Tyler Wright
The man has been on the job just over a month, he has built a monster staff, helped guide Oregon to 2 playoff victories, and is now tearing up the portal. How he finds the time is beyond me, but I am thankful he has.
Now this is in addition to the offers that Stoops sent out that Stein has reinforced. This is totally new recruitments, brand new relationships, and program building at its finest.
The next step is to get them on campus in uniform.
