The Kentucky Wildcats have a problem at the point guard position. Both of their main point guards and really the only ones who logged meaningful minutes are injured. Kerr Kriisa fractured his foot and is out somewhere between 3-6 weeks and Lamont Butler is day-to-day dealing with a sprained ankle. Butler could be back tonight and help shore up the position, but there's a distinct possibility that head coach Mark Pope will let him rest it a little longer.
Without Kriisa, for sure, and if Butler can't go, who can play point guard? There's only one other scholarship point guard on the roster and that's Travis Perry. He's a true freshman and has only played a handful of minutes so far this year.
Travis Perry is one option.
Pope had really great things to say about Perry if he gets called upon. “I have a lot of confidence in Travis Perry; he’s a terrific player, and he’d definitely be a viable option.” Pope mentioned these comments before the Gonzaga game. Perry didn't really get the opportunity down the stretch with the game on the line and the comeback almost complete. Pope instead turned to Jaxson Robinson.
Jaxson Robinson is another option.
Robinson got the bulk of the duty in the Gonzaga game when both Kriisa and Butler were out. Robinson has played a little point guard in his time with Pope at BYU. He also understands the offense the best on the team and knows how to move the right pieces around. He's not an ideal point guard in terms of size but it did seem to give him the juice to impact the game in an impressive win over the Zags.
Collin Chandler could also see some looks.
In a similar vein to Robinson, Chandler is not a point guard but plays very similar to Robinson and seems to understand what Pope is asking the offense to do. He's athletic and mature with his basketball decisions. He's also been getting looks in practice this week.
There is your answer from Pope. If Butler and Kriisa can't go, we will see a Robinson, Perry, Chandler combo at this point.
