2023 was not a good year for Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Wildcats football team. Both the offense and defense has a clear wish list for Santa. The offense needs a new fortified offensive line, while the defense needs emerging defensive stars to lead them into the new year after the front 7 moved on.

Offensive Line: Rebuilding the Big Blue Wall

In the 2024 season, the Wildcats' offensive line faced significant challenges, allowing 35 sacks over 12 games, placing them bottom of the barrel in the SEC and tied for 118th nationally.

To address these issues, Head Coach Mark Stoops turned to the transfer portal, signing five offensive linemen, including Arkansas guard Joshua Braun and Bowling Green tackle Alex Wollschlaeger. Can they gel fast enough?

Defensive Front Seven: Seeking New Leaders

Defensively, the Wildcats are experiencing a changing of the guard. Standout defensive lineman Deone Walker has declared for the NFL Draft, leaving a significant void in the front seven. Keeshawn Silver transferred, and then Ox and Rybka graduated.

The coaching staff is actively recruiting to fill these gaps, seeking players who can step up and deliver the kind of star power that has been a hallmark of Kentucky's defense in recent years. The development of these new leaders will be crucial for maintaining the Wildcats' defensive prowess.

As the Wildcats prepare for the upcoming season, their Christmas list is clear. Bush Hamdan wants a cohesive and functional offensive line. One that can withstand more than 2 seconds before giving up pressure. Brad White on the defensive side, well he needs some new emerging defensive stars. If these wishes are granted, Kentucky fans can look forward to a brighter and more competitive new year on the gridiron. I mean, there are only 4 more losses possible than what they had last year. Only way is up from here, right?
