The Kentucky Wildcats have four scholarship quarterbacks currently on their roster for next season. Beau Allen has graduated, and Gavin Wimsatt is in the transfer portal. That leaves Brock Vandagriff, Cutter Boley, Stone Saunders, and Brennen Ward. The final two on that list will be true freshmen next season. The weird part about this list is that everyone is already assuming that Vandagriff is gone, and yet it's been ghostly quiet on that front.
Kentucky has been actively recruiting other quarterbacks from the transfer portal. Maalik Murphy, a Duke transfer, was on campus this week, along with Zach Calzada. This seems to indicate that they want a veteran to come in and compete for the starting job and if it's a player like Murphy to actually have the starting job. So, what's happening with Vandagriff? Why hasn't he jumped in the portal?
The simple answer is - no one really knows or at least is willing to talk about it. There are rumors about him having a two-year NIL deal or that even he may retire from football, or even that he wants to compete for the job for next season. There is nothing definite from the program or Vandagriff's camp. It has been eerily silent.
The most recent thing released by Brock was from the Christian television channel CBN, which discussed his faith. He talks about the ups and downs of his journey but doesn't give any indication of what's next. However, he's clearly sporting Kentucky gear and sitting in the Kentucky athletic facility. He talks about keeping things in perspective and doing his best with the task in front of him. This was only posted four days ago:
Maybe he is waiting to see what Kentucky does in the transfer portal. Or maybe he is looking for one final opportunity to play, but as of now, it seems that Kentucky, Mark Stoops, and Bush Hamdan are turning the program in a different direction.
