Vanderbilt at Kentucky final odds and predictions
By Mark Knight
The line hasn't changed much this week in the matchup of two of the biggest upsetters in the SEC and in college football this year: Kentucky vs. Vanderbilt. It has hovered right around 13 points all week, and it sits at -12.5 in favor of Kentucky, according to Fan Duel. This puts the Wildcats as a nearly two-touchdown favorite to win.
The moneyline on Kentucky is minus 550 with Vanderbilt at a plus 400. Fan Duel lists the over/under for Saturday at 44.5. Both teams have the same record against the spread at 4-1 and with the money line at 3-2. However, Vanderbilt is 5-0 in the over-under, while Kentucky is 1-4.
The odds setters have had a tough time with the over-under for the Wildcats because their defense has been stifling to teams. They are now a top 5 team in yards allowed per game. Their defense has been lights out. They've only had one game this season that has had more than 44.5 total points, and that was when they blew out Ohio and scored 41 of their own points to Ohio's 6.
Predicting this game is tough, and I'm sure the odds makers have been a bit stumped on what to do with these two teams. Both have had big upsets in their most recent games. Kentucky was able to beat a sixth-ranked Ole Miss on the road, while Vanderbilt knocked off an AP top-ranked Alabama at home last week. The sky is truly the limit for both teams, but only one of them can walk away with the win on Sunday and keep those SEC hopes alive.
I predicted the rest of the season for Kentucky in this article, but I wrote it before the chaos that happened last weekend. When Alabama, Tennessee, and Missouri all went down in the SEC, and now I felt way different about the season. The SEC feels up for grabs, and either of these teams can make a run in the conference.
Right now, it still feels like Kentucky's game to lose, so I'll keep the prediction at 27-13 Wildcats. I think the Kentucky defense does what it has done so well all season: slows down high-powered offenses and shuts down Heisman-hopeful quarterbacks.
