Tyran Stokes spurns Kentucky for Kansas in brutal loss for Mark Pope

Tyran Stokes has officially made his call, and the Kentucky Wildcats ended up on the bad side of one of the most highly publicized commitments in college basketball history.

Regardless of what Tyran Stokes decided to do regarding his college commitment, it was set to come as a shock to the wider world of basketball. You'll be hard-pressed to remember any given commitment as complicated and drawn out as this one.

In some corners of the BBN, you may have even found folks ready to get it over with regardless. Now, after all this time, the wait is finally over. Tyran Stokes has committed to Kansas, and Kentucky will be forced to move off of their biggest target in the Mark Pope era.

Stokes announced his commitment live on Inside the NBA, exaggerating the blow to whichever school didn't land his allegiance from the jump. Of course, most unfortunately, this ended up being the blue and white.

A Surefire NBA Prospect

Stokes, a 6-foot-7 forward with all the physical tools to all but necessitate a one-and-done jump to the NBA, has long dominated the 2026 class as by far the biggest name therein. His ability to control the flow of the game on either end of the floor defines a skillset with few limits

Upon this loss, Kentucky will be forced to pivot to essentially any and all remaining prospects. With millions of dollars now leftover, and a superstar-shaped hole in the center of his lineup, Mark Pope is suffering the sour side of going all in on one bet.

The Offseason is Far From Over

The offseason is far from over, BBN. Transfer forward Justin McBride's commitment essentially moments before Stokes' own decision should say as much - all the same, the importance (and brutality) of missing on Stokes is perhaps equally important.

Kentucky publicly threw everything they had at the nation's No. 1 player. Now, with a good roster that was set to be made great by his commitment, the team and staff will have to scramble from here on out to match the desired competitive result.

A long break just got a whole lot longer. All we can do now is keep the faith that the staff has had a backup plan all along ahead of Pope's pivotal third year.
