Kentucky Baseball has had an up-and-down season. Those at Kentucky Proud Park have watched with bated breath as the team goes back and forth, and back and forth, unable to string together consistent play on both sides of the ball.

Their 29-16 overall record, and recent series win over the Tennessee Volunteers, has moved the Wildcats off of the NCAA Tournament bubble, at least for the time being. But it's the team's 11-13 SEC tally that elicits a greater disappointment. Nick Mingione's bunch just hasn't quite put it all together yet.

But they seem so close. The composite win over Tennessee was one thing, but shortstop Tyler Bell's performance highlights a trend that the Bat Cats will be fighting to continue in the coming weeks.

Per Prep Baseball on X, Bell earned SEC Co-Player of the Week honors, batting a supreme .538 average and posting seven hits, six runs, and two homers in the process. Heading into a pivotal weekend series with the Florida Gators, Kentucky will lean on Bell to continue his upward climb as the team full looks to turn things around.

Counting on Bell For a Turnaround

Traveling to Gainesville for what will be the Cats' second-to-last series of the regular season, Kentucky is looking for the sort of second life that the BBN have patiently waited for all year up to this point. It's not been a bad campaign, but it may be fair to say that the Wildcats are operating below the bar.

Maybe Mingione has spoiled us, but that's just me.

Following the Florida series, Kentucky has a one-game brief against Northern Kentucky before staying at home to host the Arkansas Razorbacks in a season-closer. The best possible outcome, of course, is two SEC routs in a row that puts Kentucky over the top headed into the postseason.

That may not seem likely, but both the Gators and Razorbacks hold a similar overall record to Kentucky, at 32-17. Factor in Bell getting hot and the potential (hopefully gimme) win over the aforementioned NKU Norse, and the Cats may be facing the perfect slate to keep building momentum.

We'll know tomorrow one way or another, as the Wildcats go live on SEC Network+ against Florida at 6:30 p.m. ET. The team should have the opportunity to make a splash in the postseason, either way.
