Kentucky has now lost its fourth straight game to Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks. The infamous sunglasses remark continues to haunt Mark Stoops, as his team is winless against the Gamecocks since he made it, having been outscored by a staggering 107-47 margin over those four losses. And Stoops bye week blues continue as the Cats fall to 6-11 after a bye week under Mark.

It's a disastrous stretch against a divisional opponent Kentucky must beat to succeed. As ESPN noted during the broadcast, the loser of this particular game misses a bowl game nearly 50% of the time. Now at 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the SEC, the Wildcats' season is on the brink. But more importantly, the fanbase has completely checked out after the 35-13 loss.

A fanbase's fury gives way to exhaustion

What was once white-hot anger has given way to cold, hard apathy. The frustration is palpable across social media, where fans are expressing their exhaustion with the Mark Stoops era. From disorganized messes like the Ole Miss loss to tonight's post-bye-week collapse, the recurring mistakes have taken their toll.

The only bright spot in the entire game was running back Seth McGowan, who continues to be a stud. He finished with 112 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. The rest of the Kentucky offense combined for just 120 total yards. That's not just badβ€”it's a recipe for failure in the SEC.

The $37 million question

Making matters worse is the financial reality of the situation. Mark Stoops is owed a buyout of approximately $37 million if he is firedβ€”a massive number made even more daunting by a contract clause requiring it to be paid within 30 days. That decision, and the subsequent fallout, rests squarely on athletic director Mitch Barnhart.

The effects are already showing. Fans are flooding social media with promises to sell their tickets for the rest of the season, even with marquee opponents coming to Lexington.

No relief in sight

The schedule offers no comfort. Kentucky heads to Athens next week to face a Georgia team that just had its 33-game home winning streak snapped by Alabama. After that, the Wildcats face night games against top-15 opponents in Texas and Tennessee.

For a fanbase that has finally given up, one thing is clear: basketball season can't come soon enough.
