Week 3 of the SEC season was a separator. While many teams handled their non-conference business, a few massive conference clashes and a stunning road upset have clarified the league's heirarchy. The pretenders are being exposed, and the true contender tier is shrinking. Take a look back at our week 3 power rankings to see what we had to say last week.
Here are your official WBN SEC Power Rankings heading into Week 4
1. Georgia. Bulldogs (Previously: 2)
In a heavyweight fight in Knoxville, Georgia outlasted Tennessee in a 41-34 OT thriller after Tennessee missed a potential game winning field goal in regulation. Gunner Stockton was poised under the Neyland pressure, and the Bulldogs proved they can win a shooutout in a tough road environment. This is the best win by any team in the SEC this season, since Clemson looks to be slipping after losing to Georgia Tech.
2. LSU Tigers (Previously: 1)
The Tigers drop a spot through no fault of their own. They did what they were supposed to do, dismantling a hapless Florida team 20-10. The defense was again suffocating, but Georgia's huge win coupled with Clemson looking worse drops the Tigers back a spot, for now.
3. Texas A&M Aggies (Previously: 5)
Statement made. Going into South Bend and beating Notre Dame is a monumental victory for Mike Elko and his program. Quarterback Marcel Reed was brilliant and the Aggies look like a legit threat to win the conference. They are this week's biggest riser.
4. Ole Miss Rebels
Lane Kiffin's squad is now 2-0 in the SEC after a solid win over the Razorbacks. QB Trinidad Chambliss was a dual threat in relief of injured Austin Simmons, and the Rebels' offense continues to be a potent one.
5. Oklahoma Sooners (Previously; 3)
The Sooners cruised against Temple, winning big. It was a routine victory against a non-conference opponents, but the teams that leaped them were more impressive.
6. Alabama Crimson Tide (Previously: 10)
Welcome back to the top ten, Bama. The Tide's thumping of Wisconsin was the the dominant performance fans have been waiting for. Ty Simpson had a career day, and the defense looked elite. Maybe FSU woke up the Tide?
7. Tennessee Volunteers (Previously: 4)
The Vols fought hard, but ultimately fel short at home against Georgia, again. Losing a heartbreak to a top team is nothing to be ashamed of, but the SEC is unforgiving. It is still a loss and one they heard Georgia sing Rocky Flop (ouch).
8, Missouri Tigers (Previously: 7)
Mizzou pounded Louisiana-Lafayette 52-10, with RB Ahmad Hardy having a monster 250-yard day. Thy drop a spot only because Alabama is rolling.
9. Mississippi State Bulldogs (Previously: 8)
The Bulldogs handled business against Alcorn State, they are a surprising 3-0 but their real tests are still ahead. Still you gotta feel good for Jeff Lebby and company.
10. Auburn Tigers (Previously: 11)
Auburn moved up after moving to 3-0 with an easy win against South Alabama. Jeremiah Cobb is emerging as a workhorse for Hugh Freeze.
11. Vanderbilt Commodore (Previously:13)
What a good win for Clark Lea. Going into Columbi and stunning South Carolina 31-7 is the kind of program-defining win to build on last year's upset of Bama. They are now 3-0.
12. Texas Longhorns
Texas beat UTEP, but it was ugly. Arch Manning threw another interception and looked lost most of the day. The Longhorns have an elite defense but that offense is dragging them down.
13. Arkansas Razorbacks (Previously: 14)
Taylen Green was electric again, but the Razorbacks couldn't quite keep pace with the Rebels in a shootout. They move up a spot because everyone else below them had a rough week.
14. South Carolina Gamecocks (Previously: 12)
Losing at home to Vanderbilt stinks, BBN knows. With uncertaininty around LaNorris Sellers after a gnarly concussion, the Cocks are trending in the wrong direction.
15. Kentucky Wildcats (Previously: 16)
Hey, a win is a win. But it was Eastern Michigan and that does temper the expectation that the offense is fully back. But they showed a pulse and that coupled with Billy Napier is enough to bring them out of the cellar.
16. Florida Gators (Previously: 15)
An absolute catastrophe played out for DJ Lagway and Billy Napier. Getting beat 20-10 is no bad loss numbers wise, especially by LSU. But Lagway threw 5 picks and the Gators are lost right now.
