Tennessee Takes the Top Spot, But How Does the Rest Shake Out?
SEC baseball is always a gauntlet, but this season has been pure chaos. With several teams staking their claim as Omaha contenders and a few unexpected struggles, we provide our weekly WBN Power Ranking.
Kentucky, fresh off its first College World Series win in program history, has had a rough start to conference play (2-4), and now heads to College Station for a massive series against a struggling but talented Texas A&M squad. Can the Wildcats regain momentum, or will the Aggies finally wake up?
Here’s how we rank the SEC heading into the weekend.
SEC Baseball Power Rankings (March 28, 2025)
1. Tennessee (23-2, 5-1 SEC) 🔼
The Volunteers have been dominant, winning 10 of their last 11 and boasting the best overall record in the SEC. A balanced lineup, elite pitching, and a deep bullpen make them the team to beat right now.
2. Arkansas (23-3, 5-1 SEC) 🔽
The Razorbacks dropped their first SEC game in a tough road test at LSU, but they’re still a national title contender. Their elite pitching staff gives them an edge in close games.
3. Georgia (25-2, 5-1 SEC) ⏫
Georgia has quietly been one of the most impressive teams in the country, sporting the best overall record in the SEC (25-2). Their pitching depth is a concern, but the offense can flat-out rake.
4. Texas (20-3, 5-1 SEC) ⏫
The Longhorns look legit in their first SEC season. They just took down a strong Vandy squad and have won 10 of their last 11 games.
5. LSU (24-3, 5-2 SEC) ⏫
LSU sent a message by taking two of three from Arkansas. The offense is clicking, and their home-field dominance (19-1) makes them dangerous.
6. Alabama (23-3, 4-2 SEC) ⏫
Bama swept a Florida team that’s struggling, but a 5-0 road record suggests this team can compete anywhere.
7. Oklahoma (20-3, 4-2 SEC) ⏫
Another new SEC team making noise, the Sooners haven’t lost a series yet. Their schedule ramps up soon—let’s see if they hold up.
8. Vanderbilt (20-5, 4-2 SEC) ⏬
Vandy has been solid, but a 3-3 road record is concerning. They’ve been nearly unbeatable at home (16-0), though.
9. Ole Miss (20-5, 5-2 SEC) ⏫
The Rebels are heating up, and a five-game win streak has them trending up.
10. Auburn (20-5, 4-2 SEC) ⏬
The Tigers have been solid, but losses to Tennessee show they aren’t quite in that elite tier.
11. Kentucky (15-8, 2-4 SEC) ⏬
This season hasn’t started as expected for the Wildcats. They weren't preseason top 10, but were expected to be good. Out of conference losses to Lipscomb, Murray State, and Xavier plus a rough SEC start has them slipping. That makes this weekend’s series at Texas A&M a must-win. This team has talent, but it’s time to prove it.
12. South Carolina (17-9, 1-5 SEC) ⏬
The Gamecocks are in free fall, losers of four straight.
13. Mississippi State (16-10, 1-6 SEC) ⏬
A 1-4 road record and a rough start to SEC play have the Bulldogs in a hole.
14. Florida (18-10, 0-7 SEC) ⏬
The Gators were ranked top ten preseason, but seven straight SEC losses have them spiraling.
15. Texas A&M (12-12, 0-6 SEC) ⏬
The Aggies were ranked No. 1 preseason but have completely collapsed. The talent is still there, though, and they will be desperate to turn things around against Kentucky.
16. Missouri (9-14, 0-6 SEC) ⏬
The Tigers finally won a non-conference game, but they remain at the bottom in the SEC.
Kentucky’s Crucial Series at Texas A&M
The Wildcats need to get back on track, and this weekend’s road trip to College Station could be a turning point.
Kentucky (2-4 SEC) is looking to bounce back after a series loss to Georgia.
Texas A&M (0-6 SEC) was the preseason No. 1 team but has yet to win an SEC game.
The Aggies are desperate—could they finally wake up against the Wildcats?
For Kentucky, this series is about staying in the SEC race. Winning 2 of 3 is a must—a sweep would be even better.
With a trip to Omaha as the goal, the Wildcats need to start playing like last year’s team—and fast.
