As the recruiting world waits on Brendan Sorsby and Sam Leavitt, the QB churn in the portal continues. Sam Leavitt had a two-day visit in Lexington, and it went well until the end. Texas Tech's number 1 target was Brendan Soresby, who is now seen as a LSU lean. That means all that money in Lubbock will now be focused on getting Sam Leavitt as a replacement for Behren Morton.
Things just got a lot harder if Kentucky plans on Leavitt being QB1 in Lexington.
Kentucky football turns to Ashton Daniels and Landen Clark
All of this QB uncertainty started because the staff wanted to bring in competition for Cutter Boley. Boley, who saw how that went last year, decided he no longer wanted to be in Lexington. That led to Kentucky turning to Sam Leavitt, the portal's number 2 QB.
Now, Cutter has committed to Arizona State, where he will replace the departing Leavitt. And Kentucky may be swinging for a second or third option. Auburn's Ashton Daniels is already scheduled for a visit, which we discussed here.
Now BBN needs to get to know Landen Clark, a redshirt sophomore who just completed his season at Elon. The Phoenix went 6-6 this year with Clark starting and accumulating 2321 passing yards, 614 rushing yards, and 19 total TDs. He had over 4,300 yards and 71 total touchdowns as a senior in Radford, VA, where he also won a track & field state title. The man has some serious wheels.
But it is tough to think either guy would be a huge improvement over Cutter Boley. However, that is the place the staff has positioned itself; fans will now be watching Cutter Boley develop under Kenny Dillingham, and they will compare whoever Kentucky gets to him. That may not be fair, but that is how it is going to be. Kentucky can not afford to let Boley walk and then miss on a QB.
