Redshirt junior LB Sam Greene is not going to be like Dante Dowdell, his time in Lexington will extend on. According to a post to his instagram, Sam Greene has committed to stay with the Kentucky WIldcats under new head coach Will Stein and new defensive coordinator Jay Bateman.
Sam Greene is a good first piece for Will Stein and Jay Bateman
Greene, who originally committed to the USC Trojans out of high school, is someone who is just now starting to tap into the potential that he has. He finished last year with 25 tackles and 1 sack in his first season in Lexington. This comes after 2 years at USC, where he had 16 total tackles and 1 sack.
Standing at 6'2 and weighing in at 248 pounds, Greene fits the new mold that Jay Bateman and Will Stein are forming in Lexington. The new duo wants height along the defensive line and speed to cover in the linebacking core. Greene fits that mold, with high school experience along the defensive line as well. Bateman can use him in the exotic blitz schemes he likes to draw up, and he can also drop back and help on crossers.
Now, he is not going to match up and win regularly against guys with plus speed, but for a linebacker, he will match up quite well with most tight ends in the SEC.
With this as the first official recommitment on the 1st day of the Transfer Portal, Greene becomes the first guy to publicly say for sure that he will be playing at Kentucky.
As always, please stay tuned here on our Transfer Portal tracker, as things will be happening at breakneck speed. We will update you as soon as anything happens. It has been a busy day in Lexington already, and we are just getting started.
