The Kentucky Wildcats have added 14 portal additions and rank 7th in 24/7 transfer rankings. It's full of good players, and not only of them won't compete for some level of a starting spot. Thus, this list was hard to rank because it's not just talent but also fit and needs. A few players got boosts because they filled a big hole or accomplished an important role for the Wildcat's offensive or defensive plans.
The Wildcats are not done adding but this is where things sit so far.
Ranking the Kentucky Transfer Additions:
1. Dante Dowdell - RB
The Mark Stoops offensive strategy functions around a really good backfield, and the production can't come from one back; there needs to be a stable of workhorses. Last year, there were supposed to be about three players that really rotated in and pounded the rock for Kentucky, yet it was frustrating at most. No rusher got more than 600 yards on the season. Chip Trayanum was perpetually injured, and Jamarion Wilcox struggled to stay on the field for silly reasons like not keeping his shoes tied. Adding Dowdell is huge. He was the best short-yardage back in all of college football, and Kentucky needs that so badly. He also had 12 touchdowns. Huge addition for Stoops.
2. Evan Wibberley - C
Wibberley is such a solid addition to the run game. He graded 84.7 last season for Western Kentucky, according to PFF, which is one of the highest PFF grades of any of the portal additions. Once again, if Stoops truly is returning to a ground-and-pound offensive style, which these portal additions indicate. Wibberley is a vital addition.
