The state of Kentucky has produced some truly elite basketball talent over the decades. Names like Wes Unseld, Dave Cowens, Allan Houston, Kelly Coleman, Derek Anderson, and Rajon Rondo are permanently etched into the Bluegrass State's rich hoops history.

But we may have never seen a prospect quite like Pierre Rondo Jr.

Dominating varsity talent before high school

Rajon Rondo is widely considered one of the best pure point guards to ever play the game. Basketball legends constantly rave about his elite basketball IQ, and he remains one of the few players in history to win an NBA Championship with both the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Born in Louisville, Rondo chose to make the short trip over from Louisville to Lexington for two seasons in the blue and white before turning pro.

His best year was his sophomore year when he averaged 11 points, 4.9 assists, and 6 rebounds.

Now, his son is carrying on the family legacy, and maybe even improving it, and he is doing it on a completely unprecedented timeline.

Pierre Rondo Jr is only in the 8th grade, yet he is already playing high-level varsity basketball for North Oldham.

To be fair, playing varsity before high school is pretty common. Former Kentucky turned Ole Miss guard Travis Perry famously played varsity ball in both 7th and 8th grade. That helped him break the all-time scoring record.

But Perry never made it to the state tournament as an 8th grader. Pierre not only made it to Rupp Arena, but he is completely thriving under the brightest lights.

A Sweet 16 debut to remember

In North Oldham's first-round Sweet 16 matchup, they faced off against none other than Lyon County, Travis Perry's former high school. The 13-year-old Rondo absolutely went off.

Serving as the floor general before he could drive, Pierre finished with a staggering 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, including hitting four three-pointers in the first half alone.

A 13-year-old had to get checked out of middle school for the day just to go drop 25 points in the Kentucky Sweet 16.

Kentucky doesn't have a size requirement where schools are broken up like 2A, 5A, and so on. The Bluegrass state combines all 16 regions into one tournament regardless of size.

It is an insane level of production, poise, and maturity for a player in the 2030 recruiting class. Now, North Oldham is advancing to the second round to take on Butler.

The only question left for Big Blue Nation: In a few years, will we see another Rondo rock the blue and white?
