There is one recruiting target that seems to be a primary focus for new women's basketball Head Coach Kenny Brooks, and that is ZaKiyah Johnson out of Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, Kentucky. Johnson is one of the top recruits in the nation and a 5-star recruit in ESPN's women's recruiting rankings.
In July Johnson narrowed her list to a final 6; Louisville, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Kentucky, LSU, and USC. She then proceeded to visit Kentucky last weekend and Coach Brooks worked to impress her and get her to commit.
The two local schools seem to be among her favorites: Louisville and Kentucky. It wouldn't shock any expert if she were to commit to one of those schools. According to the 94FeetWBB account on X, don't be surprised to see LSU with a push either.
If those are truly the final three choices, Kentucky has a great chance to land Johnson. The scary part of that timeline is that Louisville gets the final visit and will work to ensure they have the final impression. Their goal is to make sure her final visit is also her final choice.
Coach Brooks is looking to sign his first recruit for the 2025 recruiting class and his first recruit in his coaching tenure at Kentucky. Johnson would be an absolutely fantastic start to the class and for Coach Brooks.
If the above report is correct, look for her to make her commitment decision in the first part of November. She has yet to officially narrow her list to three or announce her timeline for committing.
According to Hoopgurlz Recruiting and On3, the new coaching staff has 10 targets, with only one currently off the board: Bryn Martin, who committed to Washington recently. There will be a lot of dominoes to fall shortly in the women's basketball recruiting world. The Kentucky staff has 10 targets, and we need a few big ones to fall toward the Wildcats.
