Reed Sheppard gets full NYC experience, throws out first pitch ahead of NBA Draft
By Alec Lasley
On the eve of the biggest day of Reed Sheppard's live up to this point, he was as relaxed and calm as always. That demeanor was on full display as he took in the full NYC experience.
While Sheppard is used to performing in front of thousands of fans, he typically does so playing basketball ... not baseball. Well, that changed on Tuesday night as he threw out the frist pitch at Citi Field ahead of the NY Yankees vs NY Mets matchup.
Stacey Reed Sheppard, his mom, was behind the plate to catch his first pitch.
Sheppard is a projected top-5 pick in Wednesday's NBA Draft and will be the first top-5 pick from Kentucky since 2017.
“I’m going to be excited wherever I end up, wherever I go," Sheppard told Paul Finebaum. "It’s going to be an unbelievable experience, something that me and my family will be able to celebrate together. I’m really looking forward to it and I’m really glad to be here in New York and be at the draft this year."
Right now, Sheppard is slotted at No. 3 in the final ESPN Mock Draft.
"Should the Rockets stand pat, Sheppard has been the favorite here since draft lottery night," ESPN Insider Jonathan Givony wrote. "Houston's ownership group traveled to meet with him in Los Angeles fairly early in the process, and he visited the Rockets' facility to make his case as the best shooter in the draft."
The NBA Draft begins on Wednesday at 8:00 pm ET.
