More preseason awards are coming to Lexington, this time on the offensive side of the field.
After numerous defensive players named to preseason watch lists, it's Kentucky wideout Barion Brown who earned honors this time. He was named to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List this week. That award is given to the most versatile player in the nation.
Brown emerged as one of the best returners in college football last season, leading the nation with three kickoff returns for touchdowns and a 36.0 yard kick return average. His four return TDs in his career also set a Kentucky football record.
As a receiver, Brown caught 43 passes for 539 yards and four touchdowns. He had nine games with at least three receptions and has caught at least one pass in 26 straight games.
He also had 147 rushing yards and a touchdown. He became just the second player in Kentucky football history to have a rushing, receiving and kickoff return for a touchdown in a single game when he did against Clemson in the Gator Bowl.
He was named an All-American by numerous outlets following his 2023 season and enters the 2024 season with numerous First and Second-Team All-American honors.
Brown has compiled 2,407 career all-purpose yards in his career at Kentucky.
Lynn Bowden won the Paul Hornung Award in 2019 for Kentucky.
