Kentucky added a key component to its roster on Thursday morning as Fairleigh Dickinson forward Ansley Almonor made the call and committed to the Wildcats.
Almonor made his commitment fresh off of his official visit to Kentucky this week.
Almonor is a 6-foot-7 forward who averaged 16.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game last season. He started 31 games. The best part of his overall offensive skillset is his ability to shoot the ball, however. He shot 39.4 percent from three and hit 93 total 3s last year.
His 93 made 3s were tied for the most in FDU single-season history.
He is a career 38.5 percent three-point shooter who has made 180 in his three seasons at FDU. In the last two years as a full-time starter, he's combined to make 168 3s and average 2.5 made 3s a game.
Kentucky was looking for additional perimeter shooting, especially from the forward spot. That's exactly what Mark Pope got in Almonor.
Not only does Almonor have the ability to stretch the floor as a wing, he can play the small-ball 4 position that will cause numerous matchup problems for opposing teams.
Kentucky's front court is now nailed down as Almonor joins Amari Williams, Brandon Garrison and Andrew Carr -- all four bringing vastly different skillsets.
He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Almonor is the eighth commitment from the transfer portal for Mark Pope and Kentucky.
At the moment, Kentucky still has two open scholarships and Pope has a clear plan for how to use those.
