Kentucky football fans Week 4 SEC viewing guide: 4 SEC games to watch
By Mark Knight
Week 4 is upon us, and there will be four particular SEC games that I will be paying attention to as they have implications for the SEC, especially for Kentucky fans. You could argue that there will be a fifth game in Vanderbilt at Missouri, but I genuinely don't think that game will be close and may not be worth watching by the third quarter.
As I looked at the slates of games this week, one particular one—Oklahoma vs. Tennessee —jumps out as an exciting SEC matchup, and I assume most of you will be watching and paying attention to it. Another one fascinates me regarding storylines and implications for Kentucky in the SEC standings.
1. Florida at Mississippi State
Billy Napier is on the hottest of seats in all of college football. He needs this win to keep his job. If he loses against the Bulldogs, it will likely be over for him this very week. He may not see the end of the season either way, but a 1-3 start to the season would be immediately detrimental. Mississippi State does not look good this year, and Florida should be able to beat them, but it's the SEC, and for Florida, it is an away game. The game's drama will be more off the field than on it, but it's a game to watch, and since it's the first SEC game of the day, it's easy to watch.
2. Arkansas at Auburn
This looks like it may be one of the closest games of the week in the SEC. This game interests me because both teams should be circled on the Kentucky calendar. These are teams we can and hopefully should beat. I also love a close game; I love it when the game comes down to the final minutes of the fourth quarter. This looks like the matchup for that exact scenario this week.
3. UCLA at LSU
The continual competitive energy between the Big 10 and the SEC is fun. UCLA, the new kid in the Big 10, has not looked all that great on the football field so far this year. They are taking on LSU, a volatile team. They have had flashes of brilliance and absolute wetting of the bed. What version of LSU will we get? Keep an eye on this one as you flip back and forth between the Arkansas and Auburn games.
4. Tennessee at Oklahoma
This is the game that everyone is looking forward to in the SEC this week. It is a matchup of two undefeated teams. Tennesee has been overwhelmingly impressive this season, and Oklahoma has been a bit of an up-and-down rollercoaster, yet they always find a way to win. The added off-field drama of Josh Heupel returning to Oklahoma to take on his alma mater. He won a National Title there in 2001 and was the Heisman runner-up. He also was an offensive coach there for a few years; after working his way up to co-offensive coordinator, he was let go in 2015.
