Kentucky football fans stunned by Wildcats destruction at the hands of South Carolina
Saturday was certainly a dark day for the Kentucky football program. Dismantled at home by South Carolina 31-6, the Wildcats put up one of the worst efforts of the Mark Stoops era.
This was the first test for Stoops since he tried to leave for the Texas A&M job during the offseason. That's why he needed a strong showing to win back the trust of his fan base. That's not what his team put forth, though.
In the first half, Kentucky fell down 10-0 before the Wildcats hit two second-quarter field goals to be in striking distance at the break. However, the second half proved to be a nightmare for the home team.
Outscored 21-0 after the intermission, the Wildcats looked lethargic, inept, and clueless against a South Carolina team picked to finish 13th in the preseason S.E.C. poll. And most of the blame that didn't fall upon Stoops' shoulders fell at the feet of QB Brock Vandargriff.
On the day, he was just 3-10 passing for 30 yards and a pick. That's not what was expected of the Georgia transfer who arrived this offseason amid considerable hype.
Now, Kentucky has little time to lick its wounds with No. 1 Georgia up next on the schedule. What's more, with games still remaining against No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 14 Tennessee, No. 3 Texas, and No. 22 Louisville, it is not hard to envision this team missing out on the postseason altogether.
That would be an awful look for Stoops given his offseason flirtation with A&M. And of course, fans of the Wildcats are furious. As fans are apt to do these days, Wildcats across the country have taken to social media to express their frustrations. Here are some of the best reactions to Saturday's debacle in Lexington.
