Another roster space is available for Kentucky basketball next season. On Monday night, sophomore forward Ugonna Onyenso announced he would be entering the NBA Draft and hiring an agent.
""I'm ready to go to the next level," Onyenso told ESPN. "I'm not thinking about coming back to play college basketball. I'm 100% focused on the NBA."
Onyenso averaged 3.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game this season in 18.8 minutes a game as a sophomore this year. He started 14 of 24 appearances.
He had three double-digit rebound games and a 10-block performance against Ole Miss.
As a freshman, Onyenso averaged 2.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.0 block a game in 6.9 minutes.
Despite his inconsistent playing time at times throughout his two seasons, his impact and effectiveness was through the roof.
His per-40 minute averages were:
Freshman year - 14.4 points, 15.1 rebounds and 5.8 blocks per game.
Sophomore year - 7.6 points, 10.1 rebounds and 5.9 blocks per game.
"As of today, I don't plan on entering the transfer portal," Onyenso added. "I feel like I am ready for the NBA. I haven't met with Mark Pope, I only spoke on the phone with him three days ago. I'm ready to go to the next level and show what I can do, but I'm not closing any doors."
Onyenso is the latest Kentucky player to announce his decision to leave the program. He joins Rob Dillingham and Justin Edwards as players in the NBA Draft pool. DJ Wagner, Adou Thiero, Joey Hart, Aaron Bradshaw and Zvonimir Ivisic have all entered the transfer portal.
Onyenso is currently ranked No. 47 overall in ESPN's latest mock draft.
