BYU transfer Aly Khalifa down to three schools including Kentucky
By Alec Lasley
Kentucky now has its coach and is moving towards putting its roster together.
A name to know is BYU transfer Aly Khalifa. The 6-foot-10 forward entered the transfer portal at the end of the week but had a 'do not contact' tag on his name. Typically that means the destination is already determined.
On Saturday night, however, Khalifa named a final three of Kentucky, Louisville and a return to BYU. He's also scheduled to visit Louisville on Thursday.
Khalifa averaged 5.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game last season in 29 appearances. He had 26 starts.
His per-40 minute per game numbers were eye-popping. Those averages were 11.7 points, 7.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game.
His assist-to-turnover ratio was 4.0 to 1.1.
The versatile forward just finished his first season at BYU after two years at Charlotte. As a sophomore, Khalifa averaged 11.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.
While Khalifa shot just 31.5 percent from three this past season, he shot 37.2 percent on one made 3 per game in two seasons at Charlotte.
It's still to be determined if Khalifa will visit Kentucky. While he's not someone who will drastically alter the roster construction by Mark Pope, the versatility would give Kentucky a very good role player in its rotation.
