When Otega Oweh announced he was returning to Kentucky basketball, fans and media alike salivated over the season Otega could have at UK. And Oweh did little to dispute the fact that he could be great in Lexington.
The biggest moments for me were the two game-winning shots he hit against Oklahoma, with the SEC tournament shot standing out as one of the best SEC tournament highlights in recent memory for UK (Cal gave us plenty of nightmares and headaches during his last few tournament runs).
Averaging 16.2 pts in his debut season at UK, Oweh was sensational all year. His efforts landed him on the All-SEC team and made him a frontrunner for SEC player of the year in 2025. He was named the preseason SEC player of the year for 2026. All those points have him on the verge of joining a very exclusive club.
BIG GAME OTEGA Oweh!
During his first season at UK, Oweh usually showed up when it mattered most. He averaged 13.7 against top 25 teams and 15.3 during the NCAA tournament. Otegatron has continued this destruction in year 2. Averaging 16.6 on the season and 23.7 during SEC play. Oweh has lived up to his preseason hype.
Is Oweh about to join the 1000 PT club?
62 players are currently in UK's 1000 pt club, and Otega Oweh is on the verge of being #63. Oweh had 584 points during year one, and sits at 366 points so far this season, placing him at a total of 950 points during his UK career.
This places Oweh above greats like Antoine Walker, Marquis Estil, Willie Cauley-Stein, Walter McCarty, and PJ Washington. Oweh has quietly become a UK great!! If he continues his SEC scoring pace, he should reach 1000 points by the end of the Florida game on Valentine's Day. The Oweh 1000 point countdown is officially on!
