Towards the end of last week, Nick Mingione made relative waves in the world of college baseball. While the postseason is still going on - a postseason that Kentucky was unceremoniously bounced from - Mingione is already at work on the recruiting trail for what is hoped to be a return to successful form next season.

This isn't to say that this year was a complete disappointment, but for a preseason top 25 team to barely sneak into the NCAA Tournament... that isn't going to sit well with fans of the Bat Cats. Still, that remains true in spite of Kentucky's short bout of early postseason momentum.

But, in adding First Team All-MAAC pitcher PJ Craig to the Bat Cats' bullpen at the end of last week, Mingione is starting to shift a measure of positive attention to the baseball program. And, now more than ever, it's clear that the pitching mound has become a point of increased emphasis.

As was announced by the man himself on X, Western Carolina pitcher Mason Snyder has joined Craig as Kentucky's second pitcher commitment within a week's time. We take those, BBN.

Mason Snyder Bolsters Kentucky's Bullpen

Snyder, who had previously transferred to Western Carolina from Berry College (a Division III school), has a resume that shows steady improvement all throughout his collegiate career up to now. Entering his fourth season, Snyder could be primed for a full breakout at Kentucky Proud Park.

After two solid seasons with Berry led to his chance with the Catamounts this past season, Snyder impressively finished at a 7-2 overall tally. Through 58 innings, the Cats' new pitcher posted a 2.48 ERA to pair with 51 strikeouts.

The SoCon is certainly tougher competition than anything on the Division III level, and even if it isn't quite the SEC, Snyder's continued growth in spite of a big change like that one is a positive sign for his continued development.

Kentucky's bullpen is in the midst of a much-needed facelift, and Snyder and Craig are leading the way.

Snyder and Craig Leading the Way

Although, while these two guys being plucked out of the transfer portal is a promising trend for Mingione, he's got a long offseason ahead of him to continue winning in this way. Kentucky will need a lot more than a few commendable grabs to overcome the bag energy brought on by this past season.

Then again, I suppose every great offseason starts with inarguable pickups like these. It's hard not to like the moves so far, even if it's completely fair for the BBN's vibes to be low when it comes to baseball right now.
