When Kentucky landed Alabama transfer Mo Dioubate, the book on him was clear: he was a high-energy, versatile defender who would bring toughness and grit to the frontcourt. What wasn't as clear was his offensive potential. Now, it seems Mark Pope is ready to find out just how high Dioubate's offensive ceiling can go.

Pope has repeatedly stated he wants his players to be aggressive and attack. For Dioubate, this is a significant and welcome change. He will be expected to take shots, make plays, and attack.

An opportunity to grow

Speaking with Jeff Goodman of Field of 68, Dioubate was asked what it means to have a coach actively encouraging his offensive game. "I know the work I put in at the end of the day. I know how much trust coach puts in me," Dioubate said. "He keeps telling me to be aggressive and play off two feet."

Throughout his two seasons at Alabama, Dioubate attempted just 238 total shots. For context, Kentucky transfer Koby Brea attempted 313 shots just last season alone. When asked about people questioning his offense, Dioubate saw it as a challenge he's ready to embrace.

"I think it gives me the opportunity to grow my game as a player," he said confidently. "He is giving me the opportunity that I always asked for and I just have to take that opportunity."

The confidence from Pope is a clear signal that Dioubate's role at Kentucky will be far more expansive than it was in Tuscaloosa. He's no longer just a defensive specialist; he's being positioned as a two-way player. How well he capitalizes on this new freedom could be a major X-factor in the Wildcats' success this season. Do you think Mo can fulfill the role Pope has carved out?
