Before last season ended, Mark Pope revealed he and the administration had a summer tour planned, one that would help the team bond ahead and refine their on-court chemistry ahead of the following campaign. In answering the BBN's burning questions over the last few days, Coach Pope provided an update on that same summer trip.

Turns out, Mark Pope had a tour of Jerusalem planned, and that will not happen because of the current tensions in the Middle East. But fear not, those wanting to get a sneak peek at Kentucky's roster, because Coach Pope hasn't yet given up on a summer trip.

In fact, Kentucky's head coach is looking to the Big Blue Nation for ideas as to where the Cats can hoop.

Mark Pope Asks BBN For Input

Pope asked Kentucky fans for alternatives on where to play his summer, with one of his biggest reasons to take a trip such as this one being the opportunity for team bonding.

Right now, with college basketball's transfer portal rules, the sport essentially hosts a free agency period every summer. Very few programs will be able to retain more than three or four players, making it hard to keep chemistry boiling as it should over time. Overseas tours, however, allow players to focus on just basketball and spend time together well before the season begins.

It should help the Wildcats avoid any sort of cohesion or energy issue, too, both of which Kentucky suffered mightily early last year. It's in an environment where there are no classes, no distractions, in a place that is unknown, that these kinds of things have the chance to come together.

Coaches also get an opportunity to see how their team operates in challenging, unusual circumstances, and players get extra practice against a real opposing roster beyond the bounds of a scrimmage.

The most logical destination would seem to be somewhere in Europe, or possibly Canada. Perhaps Pope can find a way to connect one of his international recruiting trips with his current team's competitive travel. That's another reason, among many, to make this thing work.

Once the roster is finalized, dont' be shocked if an announcement of a summer trip for the Wildcats. With portal season starting to slow down, it'd likely be sooner rather than later. Mark Pope will be back answering more of your questions soon, either way, and we'll be here bringing you all the news.
