The sudden re-entry into the recruitment of Miikka Muurinen, and subsequent loss thereafter in his commitment to Arkansas and John Calipari, may have left the BBN with a bad taste in their mouths. Especially as Tyran Stokes' recruitment goes on without refuge, little can be said about the Wildcats' current roster beyond the holes Mark Pope is waiting to fill.
Yet, that hasn't stopped the inarguably dedicated coach from hitting the recruiting trail for five-star names, regardless of what Muurinen did and what Stokes will do. According to KSR, Coach Pope is conducting an in-home visit with small forward Ryan Hampton today.
Not only is Hampton one of the best overall prospects in the 2027 class, but he's also a popular candidate for a potential reclass. Take him however you can, but Hampton joining this year's Kentucky squad, especially, would be a season-changing move.
Ryan Hampton Moves the Needle
Hampton, the No. 5 overall player and top small forward (per 247Sports), is a lengthy, ball-dominant wing that would click right in between Alex Wilkins and Ousmane N'Diaye in the Wildcats' current rotation.
The 6-foot-6 forward boasts breakneck speed off the dribble and a pure jumper that he doesn't have to be set to shoot. His high ceiling and physical intangibles are likely great measures of the appeal here, but what Hampton brings as-is is more than worth investing in.

If Pope and Kentucky extend an official offer today (assuming he isn't pushing for more), they'll join Kansas, Louisville, LSU, Indiana, Tennessee, and a fair share more on the forward's radar. It'll inevitably be a battle to land the man, but Pope could use a recruiting win like this one.
And from the outside looking in, Hampton could be worth the extra mile to ensure that Pope and Kentucky secure him. That is, a hefty portion of the program's NIL budget.
An NIL Predicament
Although for Kentucky, especially if Hampton plans to re-class, landing him and Stokes would appear to be a financial impossibility. That is, unless some of the chicken guys at Tyson want to do an old friend a favor.
Whether or not Pope's visit is any sort of indication as to Stokes' looming decision is unclear, but Hampton shouldn't be seen as a distant option exclusively.
Either way, it should be a comfort to Cats fans that their head coach is future-proofing on the recruiting trail. Pope has a backup plan for his backup plan; let the Stokes situation play out and, for the time, trust that more is in the works than we can see regarding Hampton.
