Earlier in the day, the Cats were sitting at a 4.5 point underdog, but that has changed in quite a big way. Usually odds are pretty stable on the day of the game, however this rivalry game is doing it's own thing.
According to FanDuel, Kentucky is now a 6.5 point underdog and a +230 moneyline bet. That is a significant swap from just hours earlier in the day. But why does it happen?
Why is Kentucky basketball losing ground on the sportsbooks?
Well there are many reasons really. Usually it just means a lot of money is coming in on one team in this case Louisville. The sportsbooks want to balance that out, so they change the odds to make the underdog look more appealing to people coming in late for the bet. This is their way of balancing profit with loss, or at least attempt to.
Another reason could be professional betters are moving the line by taking more or less points, this will cause a sportsbook to adjust their lines.
And then you have player news, like injuries, restrictions, etc. They could be thinking that Jaland Lowe is not going to play significant minutes and therefore a shift in the way the line needs to look. We haven't heard anything on that, but it would not be surprising.
Either way right now the money, and the momentum seem to be on the side of the Cardinals. But the game is played on the court and Kentucky can quickly end that momentum early in the YUM Center. Tip off is set for 8 PM on ESPN.
