La Familia's key to winning the TBT championship lies in one of their greatest strengths

Well, La Familia has made it all the way to the top. I'm not sure even the most optimistic TBT fans expected these former Wildcats to make such a run after their game-two runaway loss to The Ville, but that has now turned out to be the team's only defeat. It all comes to a head this Sunday in Lexington, where La Familia takes on Davis Steel for the $2 million championship prize.

Davis Steel, the winner of the non-alumni side of the bracket, is on a 4-0 tear with two blowouts of their own under their belts. However, lucky for the boys in blue and white, the key to defeating the Steel squad lies in one of La Familia's greatest strengths in the tournament thus far.

The Kentucky alumni have done a terrific job defending the three-point shot, and that's their title opponents go-to method of scoring. If La Familia manages to play their own game, this one should be a shoe-in.

La Familia Must Play to Their Strengths

Davis Steel, in their four games up to this point, have shot a composite 43% clip from long range; that's dangerous for an entire team to be operating on that level, and in response, La Familia comes in at a less impressive 32.4% rate of their own.

But when it comes to their opponents' three-point percentage, La Familia have held their enemies to 25.6% per contest. In short, Big Blue Nation, that means something will have to give this Sunday, and it may all come down to momentum.

Can La Familia get out to a hot start - an uncharacteristic tendency for the team - and slow the game to a grit-n-grind pace early on? That may be the difference between allowing sharpshooter Gabe York to get hot and run away with this thing. Control the pace, control the game.

Control the Pace, Control the Game

On paper, that metric looks like it'll end up making all the difference. Of course, La Familia also needs Archie Goodwin to stay hot, and getting Sean McNeil going could keep the former Cats in it even if Davis Steel start to find their range.

What I will say about this La Familia team is that, save for that one Louisville game, they have a ton of grit. Jon Hood has refined this squad into one that is almost impossible to completely bury; no matter how things begin on Sunday, or how they look like they're going, I expect La Familia to have a close say in the final result.
