Archie Goodwin calls game: La Familia advances to TBT Sweet 16 on buzzer-beating beauty
Archie Goodwin wasn’t going to let this one slip away.
With a Sweet 16 berth on the line and the Elam Ending target score set at 79. For those not aware an Elam Ending in TBT happens around the 4 minute mark of the 4th quarter. The team that is in the lead has 8 points added to their score to get to a target score. So if La Familia is ahead 70-60, the target score would be 78. The first to get to 78 wins.
La Familia — Kentucky’s alumni squad in The Basketball Tournament — needed a closer. Tied at 76 with War Ready, both teams had traded haymakers, missed threes, and second-chance chaos. Then Goodwin turned a scramble into a signature moment.
A loose ball turned fast break. A one-on-two opportunity. A soaring, twisting, glass-kissing finish.
Game. Set. Archie.

La Familia took down War Ready 80–76 in a high-drama finish Sunday, and it was the former Wildcat guard who sealed it with a high-arcing runner off the backboard, sending Kentucky’s alumni squad into the Sweet 16.
After building a 76–70 lead, La Familia missed seven straight attempts from the field and the free-throw line. War Ready capitalized with back-to-back dunks, then tied it up on a Wendell Green Jr. layup. But Green missed the go-ahead free throw, and Goodwin stole it on the next War Ready possession, scoring a layup for 78–76. Seconds later, he finished the game with the dagger.
Goodwin led La Familia with 16 points, while Doron Lamb, Kerem Kanter, and Kahlil Whitney each chipped in 10. Andrew Harrison and Aaron Harrison combined for 15 rebounds and three steals.
La Familia shot 45.8% from the field and out-assisted War Ready 13–10.
Next up: a heavyweight showdown against No. 2 seed Eberlein Drive. If Goodwin has the ball with the game on the line again, don’t blink. His redemption tour continues.
