UPDATE: Kerr Kriisa is out 3-6 weeks due to a foot fracture.
Orignal Story:
Kerr Kriisa got the opportunity to start this game due to an injury with starting point guard Lamont Butler. Then, midway through the second half, Kriisa passed a ball to Koby Brea, and as Brea went to pass it back, Kriisa received it like a hot potato and threw it immediately to Brea without even thinking because something happened in his leg. The ball was turned over, and Kriisa limped back down the court to try to stop his turnover from turning into points. Watch it here:
Initially, announcers thought it was cramps because of how he was grabbing his legs and how the trainers were working on it after the play. However, he never returned and even went into the locker room at one point. Then, in a post-game video posted in the locker room celebration, you can see Kriisa in the back not doing great.
After the game, Mark Pope said that they would need to get some imaging done on it, which is never a good sign. His exact quote was, "We will go get some imaging as soon as we get back and see where he stands. Kerr is as tough as nails; it will take a lot to keep him out of a game."
What makes the injury more concerning is that it is labeled as a "non-contact" injury. He didn't collide with anyone or fall to the ground; something simply gave way in his leg. This is not a good sign as far as sports injuries go, and many are speculating it's a torn Achilles, which would be a blow for both Kriisa and the Kentucky Wildcats.
At this point, that is speculation, and more will be released this week to give Big Blue Nation more information.
Kentucky plays Colgate on Wednesday, December 11, so there are a few days to rest, and that would be a good opportunity for him to sit it out if needed.
