With Kentucky reeling, losing 4 of their last 5 games, things aren't getting any easier for Kenny Brooks and company. Tonight, they head to Austin to take on a 22-2 Texas team that will be ranked in the top 5 when the new polls drop later today.
The Cats fought valiantly against No. 7 Vanderbilt on Thursday but couldn't close the deal, losing a heartbreaker 84-83. Now? They have to try to stop the slide on the road against one of the best teams in the country.
The Texas test is one Kentucky women's basketball has to pass
Texas is loaded. They have lost 2 games by a total of 8 points. Madison Booker is a problem. She is averaging 19.0 points per game and shooting 50% from the floor. Then you have Rori Harmon, who runs the show with 6.8 assists and is an absolute pest on defense with 3.0 steals per game. They also have size inside with Kyla Oldacre (6.9 rebounds, 1.2 blocks).
Basically, there are no easy matchups. Kentucky will need to find some depth somewhere to try and stay in this one.
Clean it up
If Kentucky wants a chance tonight, they have to stop the turnovers. A ridiculous 20 turnovers cost them the game against Vanderbilt. A game they should have won. Several of them were just easy outlet passes that were thrown away, unforced errors that kill momentum.
Clara Strack had 6 turnovers herself in that one. That is not something Kentucky can afford to let happen on the road if they want to pull off the upset.
Texas thrives on mistakes. If you give them free possessions, they will bury you.
