Kenny Brooks came into Lexington and changed the math in a remarkably short period of time.
Just three years ago, this program was struggling through a 12-19 season. A year later, it was 12-20. Today, as the regular season reaches its finale at a sold-out Historic Memorial Coliseum, Kentucky is finishing its second straight 20-win season, currently at 21-8. While Brooks deserves the headlines for the vision, the five seniors taking the floor today provided the heart and the will to make it a reality.
Later this afternoon, Big Blue Nation will honor five women who redefined the program: Tonie Morgan, Amelia Hassett, Josie Gilvin, Jordan Obi, and Teonni Key.

Jordan Obi arrived in Lexington after three brilliant years at Penn and immediately became the backbone of the interior. Averaging 9.5 PPG and 6.1 RPG, she brought a veteran toughness that allowed the Cats to compete with the SEC’s physical frontcourts.
Then there is Tonie Morgan. The former Georgia Tech standout became the undisputed general of this team. Leading the Cats with a massive 8.3 assists per game, Morgan has been the high-octane engine of the Brooks era. She didn't just play point guard; she coached on the floor.
Brought her own shoes & more! 💙

While Josie Gilvin’s contributions aren't always found in the box score, her impact on the culture is undeniable. She has been a teammate in every sense of the word, providing the defensive grit and energy that turned Memorial Coliseum back into a fortress.

Amelia Hassett has quickly become a fan favorite for her lethal perimeter game. The New South Wales native has averaged 10.4 points and hit some of the biggest shots of the season. Alongside her, Teonni Key has been electric despite battling a painful elbow injury. Key’s transition into a leadership role helped stabilize the locker room after Georgia Amoore graduated.
A lasting legacy as a Wildcat! 💙

These ladies have changed Kentucky women’s basketball forever. They’ve changed me as a writer through their sheer determination, but more importantly, they’ve changed the future for thousands of little girls across the state, including my own, who now see this program as a national standard.
